Since I've been posting Savannah pictures, I thought I'd sneak in a post about the Southern staple I made myself! Awhile ago Jeph gave me green tomatoes he sliced and canned, and I've been wanting to try fried green tomatoes. I've had them in restaurants before and like them, but never tried to make them.
I used a recipe from Taste of Home and made them with the canned tomatoes:
The only changes I made was that I did not bake them afterwards - they were tender enough from being canned. I also didn't make the tomato salsa but dipped them in honey mustard. They were SO GOOD, and I kept this recipe to make in the future. Andy doesn't eat fried green tomatoes. He's tried them and agreed you taste mostly fried coating more than tomatoes. And I don't want to make them too often because this recipe is so good I would be gobbling them up!
So I highly recommend the recipe I used and it really was pretty easy, not to mention delicious :)
